ILLINOIS β Ahead of Illinois’ June 28 primary elections, Patch distributed questionnaires to candidates running against Democrat incumbents in statewide races, including Illinois’ U.S. Senate seat held by Tammy Duckworth.
Seven candidates have filed right the face Duckworth in the November general election. They include Mundelein attorney Kathy Salvi, Navy veteran and former police officer Peggy Hubbard of Belleville, Lake Forest real estate manager Casey Chlebek, Dolton pastor Anthony Williams, Naperville entrepreneur Matt Dubiel, Chicagoan Jimmy Lee Tillman II, and Geneva financial planner Bobby Piton.

Why are you seeking this office?
It’s 2022, and truckers are representing us in D.C. because our elected officials are not. Matt Dubiel is running for US Senate to represent the PEOPLE of Illinois who want our economy, medical freedom, schools, communities, and freedoms BACK.
Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ___, and this is what I intend to do about it.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is the economy, and the first step in fixing it is voting out ALL who stood by while it was shut down. We must vote out all who are printing and spending our money overseas. I will not stand by while our economies are shut down, and I will not vote to waste the taxpayers’ money on bloated spending inside the USA or in foreign countries. I will read the bills before voting on them. I will not vote for pork spending. I will not vote for abortion or trans surgery spending. We need to finish the border wall, remove the incentives for illegals and restore our manufacturing and supply chains in the USA. We must make things in America again.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
Matt Dubiel is the only candidate with a solid grasp of all the issues facing the people of Illinois, from a family perspective. No other candidates are focused on the assault on our children in school, via CRT/SEL early Sex Ed, mask mandates, and vaccine mandates. Matt is the only true America First candidate who believes in less government and less spending. Matt is a regular middle-class family man who will serve one term only and inspire Illinois to return to common sense and normalcy.
If you are challenging an incumbent, how would you perform differently if elected?
Matt will actually show up to vote in the Senate. Tammy Duckworth has a high no-show rate. She and the rest of congress vote on bills they do not read, and they vote to send billions to help foreign countries while Americans struggle. Matt will read the bills before voting. Matt will not fund foreign wars and governments. Matt will not fund abortion and gender issues. Dubiel will support securing our border and restoring our economy.
How would you characterize the events of Jan. 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol?
Let our court system handle that. We have an economy that’s in trouble, runaway inflation, a border crisis, and an administration and congress sending billions to Ukraine while Americans suffer. Where is the outcry for our cities across America that were burned and destroyed during those “peaceful” protests? America and our media need to get our priorities straight. Our country is in deep trouble, and we need to fix our economy, crime, and our border immediately.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
For starters, I will spend all my time (when not in session) in Illinois with the people of Illinois. I give my personal number to everyone now. That’s not changing. I will call people back. I will not send these epic and evasive form letters our current Senators foist upon their constituents. I will work FOR the people. I will also be using social media to connect with the people of Illinois instead of talking down to them while selling them on woke policies, spending, or printing “national dog day”. Our Representatives aren’t cruise directors or pitchmen for big tech and big pharma. We are the voice of the people of Illinois and as Senator, I will BE one of the people of Illinois. I will already be at the school board meeting bringing attention to issues MY fellow Americans need help with. We don’t need Senators at ribbon cuttings for photo ops. We need Senators standing with parents at school board meetings, and standing with nurses, cops, vets, students, and our military to support their medical freedom. You will see Matt Dubiel standing beside them, advocating for them in the mainstream media, and connecting directly with the people via social media, zoom calls, and forums.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I am an outsider. I am not aligned with special interests or funded by special interests. I am a real guy who’s standing up for my family the way I will stand up for yours, our rights, and our constitution. What we’ve been doing does not work. It’s time to get back to the core of self-government and send real people to represent real people. I am the real deal and my life and track record support that. Party politicians and insiders are selling us out. We can not stand for this any longer.
What was your first paying job, and what did you learn from it?
I started a lawn mowing business when I was very young. I learned how to work. My first paycheck came from Aurelio’s pizza in Downer Grove. I was 14. I worked 2-3 jobs at once until I was about 25 years old. My kids all work. I believe opportunity looks a lot like work.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Find a career you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
You’ve got a guy, his name is Matt Dubiel. We the people have the power. So it’s not up to straw polls, or the GOP, or some special group. Fundraising doesn’t matter. What matters is getting the RIGHT people who will stand for the RIGHT things. Matt Dubiel will stand up for you and cannot be bought. Now it’s up to the people.
